Who We Are

York County Saves is one of the many programs offered by York County CA$H where we help you and your family build the assets you need to be financially secure.  Assets are things like a satisfying career, a home of your own, owning a business, savings, money management skills and --the most important thing--HOPE: the belief that there is a possible path to better future. To learn more about CA$H opportunities including Matched Savings Accounts, CA$H Coaching, Better Money Management and Free Tax Prep go to www.yorkcountycash.org  or contact Rhoda Butler:  rhodab@yccac.org

Russell Jackson never considered himself a saver. But losing his job in 2009, he vowed to no longer be financially vulnerable. "I'd never really considered setting aside money, because I always had enough to pay my bills and purchase everything I needed. The future never occurred to me," he admits.

After his company laid off Jackson and 30 other workers, he realized he had no savings to fall back on. "I vowed then to make a change and to no longer be financially vulnerable. When I was unemployed, I had a lot of free time. While browsing online, I found the America Saves website," he says. By taking advantage of the America Saves savings tips and resources, Jackson was able to make a savings plan and start an emergency fund. Read more...

Saving is a Good Idea, but I Don't Have a Penny to Spare!

Perhaps you need to think a little differently about saving.

  • Make It Automatic!  This is the best way to save.  Enroll in direct deposit at work and put some of each paycheck, even a small amount into a savings account.  If it isn't in your wallet, you are less likely to spend it.
  • Save $2.74 a day and you have $1,000 in a year!  Hmmmm, what do you spend $2.74 a day on that you don't have to have?!?!.
  • Find your change, save it, and keep adding to it.  It is estimated that each family has about $100 in loose change rolling around in their home and car.
  • Track your spending--every penny.  Most likely you will find ways to cut back and start saving!

Building wealth starts when you set a goal and make a plan to reach that goal.   Whatever goal you choose – whether it’s buying a car, buying a house, or getting out from under your debts – learn about proven savings strategies and get simple tips on the best ways to save.  Click on the links below to learn how to:

Save money by making your home more energy-efficient. Use timers on high-energy items (as well as lighting so it goes on when you need it and off when you don't).  Full freezers work more efficiently.  If it is half full of food items, fill some empty milk or sealable containers two-thirds full of water and stock them in your freezer.
